Pastors take on TWS Tigers

On Friday, April 5th, Turlington Woods Tigers challenged local pastors to a basketball game.

Although the final points were insignificant, top TWS scores came from Brandon (10 pts.), Aaron (15 pts.), and Larry (20 pts.) as well as the winning shot.

In an effort to bring the community together, the following churches were represented:  Pastor Karl Wilkins - The Mount Suffolk (TWS BUSINESS PARTNER), Pastor Emanuel Myrick - Bethlehem Christian; Pastor John Moore - The Experience Church; Pastor Melvin Watford - White Oak Baptist Church; Evangelist Willie Riddick- Willie Riddick Ministry; Pastor Anthony Ferebee - The Mount EC; and Lee Wilson.

From the beginning of the year, Pastor Wilkins and other community pastors have spoken to TWS male students regularly, inspiring them and encouraging the potential for success. “The Mount of Suffolk,” under Pastor Wilkins created a “Sneakers Drive,” by reaching out to local community leaders. The pastor said he was “called to have intercessors reanoint the shoes,” and that “God will order the steps.” The male students gain valuable lifelong learning talking to these male role models.

The entire school population was treated to lunch (pizza, drinks, popcorn, and cotton candy) during the game as their weekly reward for PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support).  PBIS improves social, emotional and academic outcomes for all students, including students with disabilities and students from underrepresented groups.
